Special place extending
over 73,350 acres, Plitvice Lakes National Park is the largest park
in Croatia and the oldest one in Southeast Europe. It is also the
most visited site of the country with more than 1,000,000 visitors
per year.
Features
of the Park
Plitvice Lakes National Park consists of 16 lakes linked
together by marvellous waterfalls, they are all can be seen
from the surface and form beautiful landscapes with the beautifully
green flaura. Those lakes owe their beauty and their blue-green color
to the calcium carbonate deposited on their funds. The succession of
the 16 lakes is such a unique phenomenon of natural architecture.
They are surrounded with thick forests which house fir trees,
spruces, beeches, maples, charms..., bears, wolves, wildcats, deers,
wild boars, badgers and other endemic and endangered species of
animals and plants. Plitvice Lakes National Park is undeniably a
Croatian marvel, if not THE Croatian marvel, and the protected area
was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage in 1979.
